WEAPONS & EQUIPMENT

Pistol - This pistol is from Boros, so hangs between shininess and dirt. Tanith roughly knows which end is the dangerous part, a fact which is mightily disturbin’ to the rest of his crew. It holds 8 rounds per clip, can fire up to 3 rounds a turn and has a range increment of 100ft. It does d6W damage.
Ballistic Mesh - A bulletproof light armour, ballistic mesh was usually used by the Browncoats in the war, but Tanith has no intention of gettin’ shot.

TRAITS

Dull Sense - Hearing (Minor Complication) - Tanith has the mighty irritatin’ habit of being deaf as a post, especially on the occasions where it suits him. He claims that the constant bangin’, rumblin’ and general chatter of the ship wore down his hearin’ a long time back. Personally, I think he jus’ don’t wash his ears out enough of that engine grease.
Leaky Brainpan (Minor Complication) - He’s a toolbox short of a toolbox. The man is completely shiang jing ping, he thinks that the ship talks to him. Now, I’m all for mechanics who have a knack with machines, but he takes it jus’ a little too far. When he says that the ship is talkin’ to him, he don’t necessarily mean metaphorically. An’ he talks back. That ain’t normal, but we’ve mostly got used to it. Mostly. Still somewhat nervous, tho, wonderin’ what the ship will tell him to do next.
Lightweight (Minor Complication) - Never let him drink, ever. The boy falls on his face faster than a conman picks up his cash. This guy can fall over in a stiff breeze, and then catch a cold from it. Generally, I keep him in the engine room where he can’t mess himself up too much.
Math Whiz (Minor Asset) - Tanith can come up with the right number faster than moonshine puts him on his face. I’ve never known him be wrong when it comes to numbers, which is mighty reassurin’ in general. Unfortunately, it also means that I have to make sure that his pay is correct down to the last credit.
Mechanical Empathy (Minor Asset) - As well as “talkin’” to Shard, the ship also talks to him, especially about what’s just gone wrong, is about to explode, or fall off. He’s one of the best damn mechanics I’ve ever met, and one of the weirdest. But I guess none of us can talk.
Memorable (Minor Complication) - Boy twitches. Got a gorram problem with fidgetin’ and a serious inability to stay still for more than a nanosecond. Kinda makes him stand out in a crowd, especially if his nervous tics start turnin’ up or he tries to strike up a conversation with someone’s generator. Sticks in the memory too, which can be bad on occasion.
Phobia - Reavers (Minor Complication) - Even the mention of Reavers makes Tanith hit the desk, unconscious. Out like a lightbulb, which can make those times when we come across their leavings or their space a mite tricky, as I have to lie outright to Tanith to keep him functionin’. However, on the bright side, if I ever want to have Tanith suddenly shut up, I have a pre-packaged way out. Small mercies.
Sharp Sense - Sight (Minor Asset) - He can see things, he shouldn’t be able to. The tiniest flaw or flicker is pretty obvious. Which is right worryin’ when he’s playin’ poker. Never play poker with Tanith.
Total Recall (Minor Asset) - Tanith has a bad habit of contradictin’ me with somethin’ I said over two weeks ago. An’ if you press him, he’d probably quote date, time and location too. He don’t forget stuff, even if you’d rather he did. Even if he rather he did. Feel sorry for him, sometimes. But not after he’s told me I’m a hypocrite for the twentieth gorram time.

ROLEPLAYING NOTES

“Tanith? Well he’s always been a secret favourite of mine, a star pupil at this Academy, who was full of strange ideas and innovations, and had an enormous gift with machines. However, I’ve always pitied Tanith, he seemed a bright fellow fidgeting in my classes with his pen. He was eager to learn but difficult to control.
“He’d always do his own thing and surprise us all at the Academy. Sometimes this was met with reluctant acceptance, however other times his actions were stomped on hard. So hard, his grades plummeted until he recovered from the shock and became his old erractic self again. He never seemed to make many friends with his fellow students either.
“Everyone, it seemed, was too afraid of Tanith and his fluid personality to even approach him. Maybe it was this that drove him to quit, or maybe we pushed him too hard. But the fact remains, Tanith adandoned us to find his own way and all I can do is hope he’s found his place in this unforgiving ‘Verse.”
